Calcium Oxide

Calcite is a carbonate mineral and the most sensitive polymorph of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). It has a hardness of 3 according to Mohs hardness scale. It has a specific gravity of 2.7 gr/cm3 and shows glassy luster in crystallized samples. Its color varies according to impurity. Along with white color, it can also take very different colors such as gray, red, melon, yellow, green depending on the impurities. Pure calcite contains 56% CaO, 44% CO2. In impure crystals, calcium may be replaced by other elements such as Fe, Mg.

Ground calcium carbonate (GCC) has a wide range of uses as an industrial mineral. This mineral has three qualities that define its quality during its use. These are grain diameter, color and chemical purity. These properties describe the suitability of the mineral in any application. Calcite can be used as filling material in different sizes. The materials to which it is added; whiteness, fluidity, tensile strength, yield strength, durability, etc.
